Japan 2018

Hey! It’s been a while!

A week ago, I got back from one of the best vacations ever: JAPAN.

I’ve been planning this trip for MONTHS and did so much research on where to go that it really paid off. I went with my mom and my sister for 10 days, May 10-20. So this trip was a birthday present for me / mother’s day present (best birthday ever!!).

We didn’t go with a tour because like i said, I did so much planning and preparation on what we’re going to do on each day, that i was basically the tour guide, which is wild because for the first time ever, my mom and my sister were following me and asking me what we’re going to do. I’ve never planned something this big before. I’m back home and i still can’t believe how i did it.

the view from our hotel

This blog post is basically going to be pictures from our trip!

One of the first photos i took was with Hachikō of course. I know the story of Hachikō and i was so pleased to find out how close our hotel is to this statue. Actually, our hotel was right in Shibuya Crossing, which is one of my favorite places in Tokyo!

Our first full day, we went to Harajuku to the Meiji-Jingu shrine.

And then made our way to Takeshita Street, one of my other favorite places in Tokyo!

That night, we went to Shinjuku and walked around. We didn’t stay for too long because we were dead tired after walking around so much.

The next morning, we went to Asakusa!

We absolutely loved it there. I think we all wanted to buy *everything*.

Ramen Reyhan

After Asakusa, we stopped by Akihabara where i spent almost all my money on anime figures.

We went to a maid cafe and made the cutest maids ever. I’ve always wanted to go to a maid cafe since i see it so much in anime.

The maid cafe we went to was called “maiddreamin” and it was super kawaii.

*delicious, delicious. mew mew kewwwwww!*

That night, things got even more kawaii because we went to the Kawaii Monster Cafe!

We had so much sweets that day (not complaining).

The next day was mother’s day!

We did a day trip to Hakone with the Romancecar and had a much needed relaxing day at the onsen (hot spring).

One our way to Hakone, we saw Mount Fuji, which was such an incredible sight to see, i can’t even tell you how much more beautiful it was to see Mount Fuji with your own eyes.

Happy Mother’s day, Annem ❤

The next day was a hectic day: my birthday.

I can’t believe i went to Disney on my birthday.. and not just any Disney, Disneyland Tokyo. best birthday ever.

After Disney, we rushed back to our hotel, got ready really quick, and went to Shinjuku for the Robot Restaurant!!

I can’t believe we did that all in one day… unforgettable birthday, seriously.

The next morning, we went to the Tsukiji Fish Market. I had fish bright and early in the morning….and i don’t even eat fish ;P

After the fish market, we went to Ikebukuro! Durarara is probably on my top 10 favorite anime/manga list so to be in Ikebukuro really meant a lot to me.

We all liked Ikebukuro a lot actually. We went to the Pokemon store too. I also made a couple comparisons with Durarara…

I almost want to watch the anime again just because now that i’ve been there, i want to pay more attention to where all the characters are. (peep Izaya and Shizuo in that one photo ;P)

When we got back to our hotel, we got ready again and took a taxi to the mosque in Shibuya!

It was beautiful there. It’s a Turkish mosque so we were talking to some Turks about Tokyo and about Ramadan too. Ramadan was starting back home the day we went to the mosque, so my mom prayed there.

The next day, we woke up early in the morning and took the Shinkansen to Kyoto!

I think when we got to Kyoto is where we all started to relax a bit since Kyoto is a lot quieter and more peaceful then Tokyo.

Also…this happened:

Our first night in Kyoto, we walked around Gion, which was very pretty at night.

Yasaka Shrine at night 😀

The next day was probably our favorite day in Kyoto!

Kinkaku-ji Temple! Sooo so pretty. It was so beautiful, I loved the landscaping there.

After, we went to the Bamboo Forest which was breathtaking.

After we walked around there, we walked around the lake and went to the entrance to the Iwatayama Monkey Park. Getting to the top of the monkey park was a bit of a hike. We were tired, sweating, but we made it in the end to the very top!

The monkeys were so cute. I loved that they were running around freely and that they weren’t caged in.

the view from the Iwatayama Monkey Park

That night we went to Gion Corner for a very cool performance of traditional Japanese art.

It was so interesting to watch. Afterward, we hung around Gion for a bit.

i love Kyoto at night 🙂

Our last day in Kyoto, we made our way on the Metro for Fushimi Inari-taisha!

After that, we went to the Nishiki Market and did some shopping before going back on the Shinkansen to Shibuya.

The Kyoto Tower was really beautiful at night. We loved Kyoto and i think we really needed some peace after traveling nonstop. I really kept us busy 😛 but even though we spent 3 days in Kyoto, my heart was aching for Tokyo, i missed Shibuya so much.

Our last full day in Tokyo, we went back to Asakusa to buy last minute gifts and things we wanted from the market that we liked so much. There was also a festival happening so we were able to see festival celebrations as well which was very cool and interesting.

After nonstop shopping at Asakusa, we went to Kawasaki station that night to see Anata No Warehouse (my sister and I actually thought this was an outdoors arcade because of the pictures we saw online, but it was in fact indoors!).

This arcade was so well done, the three of us loved it! We were so surprised it was free. I wish we had something like this back home. The inside is based off of Hong Kong.

After the Warehouse, we went back to Shibuya Crossing to enjoy our last night there. We just sat down and watched the people cross, taking it all in.

Our last and final day: we went to Takeshita Street again, early in the morning for last minute shopping again (the shopping never ends!) When we were sure we got everything we needed, we went back to Shibuya Crossing on our last hour before going back to the airport 😦

miss you

I miss this sight sooooo much 😦

I left my heart in Japan so i definitely need to go back to get it! 😀 This trip was unforgettable. I went with the best people ever to the most respectful country i’ve been to yet. I cannot wait to go back to Japan. Japan is such a beautiful country with the best and nicest people. The culture is absolutely gorgeous and I will recommend a vacation to Japan to anyone!

i miss you Hachikō

ありがと ございます

Until next time xx

Some Spring

It’s officially spring!!!….

Or is it? Some spring we’re having..

It’s been so long since I posted! Not much has been going on. This is the second snowstorm we’re having in NJ. The first one, two weeks ago, was so bad that we lost power for 3 days. We never lose power in our house, so that was quite a cold time for us. This second storm isn’t so bad, not as bad as the first, but it’s supposed to be spring! The snow is supposed to be over already!

Always, I haven’t been up to much. I’ve just been playing lots of games lately (Crash Bandicoot, Animal Crossing, lots of Sims 4) and haven’t been updating my blog.

My cousin is actually going away for a bit so I’m actually taking care of her betta fish!

How cute are Brooklyn and Bronx?! ^u^

Other than that, nothing new! I’ll be in Jersey trying to enjoy spring in the snow..

Happy 2018 everyone. I hope this year is a good one.

Unfortunately, my first blog post for this year isn’t a very happy one. Yesterday night, my dear sweet betta, Eggplant, passed away.

We were going to have him for two years in March.

I’ve had a lot of great memories with him, mostly on my Snapchat memories. Anyone who follows me on Snapchat knows how much he meant to me.

For the past couple days, he’s been suffering from swim bladder disease. From what I understand, it means the betta’s stomach gets bloated from bacteria, air, or is constipated. When the betta is going through that, they will tend to swim on their side and lay down sideways to rest.

We noticed that he lost color from stress, but thinking maybe something was wrong with the bowl he was in, I went to Petco and got him a tank with a filter and a heater. This, unfortunately, resulted in Eggplant getting even paler. He just worse and worse. I treated him best as I could by consistently cleaning the water so he can stay in a clean and comfortable environment, but I knew I needed to do something else.

Yesterday, after work, I went back to Petco and got him some medicine. When I came home, he was still living, but on the brink of death. I put the medicine in, but soon after, he died. I guess I was waiting for some kind of miracle to happen when I put the medicine in.

My mom and my sister buried him out by our fountain. My poor baby baetta.

Eggplant lived a good life. Everyone in my family loved and cared for him. He is no longer suffering now. We love you Eggy.

One of the last and coolest pictures I took of him. We’re gonna miss you baetta.

Fictional Female Fighters

For Halloween 2017, I was my favorite fictional female fighters..

Sailor Mars & Kim Possible

I was honestly meant to be Sailor Mars in another life. Her name is Rei- my name is REYhan, we have the same hair style and I favor fire-type everything. We’re basically the same. I was so excited to be her.

I went out on Friday night and saw some pretty cool costumes. No one really knew who I was though, but a few people did. The few who knew were really excited when they saw me :p

And KIM POSSIBLE. My childhood fav. Kim Possible is and always will be my favorite Disney Channel show. I wanted to be just like Kim when I got older. I thought she was so cool how she saved the world and was always so confident when she said things like, “I can do anything.” She was so amazing to me. That was like a dream come true.

I dressed as Kim to my cousin’s Halloween-themed birthday party and my family dressed up too.

There’s my goofy family.

And this was last night- but with a twist! Dark Sailor Mars.

This past October, I didn’t really do anything too spooky. I went to Six Flags Fright Fest this year as usual, but nothing else. However, I did watch some spooky movies that I would like to share.

The Collector (2009)

I watched this movie by myself without knowing anything about it. I had no clue. So as I’m watching it, it was pretty interesting in the beginning, but then once the plot becomes clear and you realize the situation the protagonist is in, it takes a completely different turn of events. After I watched it, I spoke so highly of it that I made my entire family watch it the next day. My dad didn’t fall asleep so you know it was good when he doesn’t get sleepy haha 😀

Sadako vs. Kayako (2016)

This is a Japanese movie that I’ve heard about. I’ve been meaning to watch it for a while and I finally did. It was very spooky. I quite enjoy Japanese horror. It’s a cross-over of two different iconic franchises: Ju-on (The Grudge) and the Ring. The title speaks for itself. Sadako is the main villain in the Ring and Kayako is the villain in Ju-on. It’s a battle between two evil curses. I really like the Ju-on movies and of course, the Ring, with the cursed video tape is iconic. I actually just recently finished reading the first Ring book by Koji Suzuki. I highly recommend reading that too if anyone is interested.

Eyes Without a Face (1960)

This is a French horror film. This is an adaptation of a novel by Jean Redon. I never read it, but I think I will in the future some day because I thought this movie was subtle and a bit disturbing. It was just the right amount of creepy. The things that happened in this movie, I wouldn’t wish that upon anyone. It’s frightening and also kind of sad. I felt very sympathetic too when I watched this.

Need I say more?

Stranger Things (2016-present)

Last year, everyone (including myself) fell in love with this Netflix show. Last Friday, Season 2 finally came out (hooray!). I’m still not finished watching it, but hopefully tonight I’ll finish it. I kind of don’t want to finish it because then, I’ll have to wait a full year for the next season wahhh 😦

If you haven’t checked out Stranger Things yet, stop what you’re doing and watch it. Also, I love Eleven. That is all.

I hope everyone had a nice Halloween and has a nice November! xx

Washington D.C.

This past weekend, I was in Washington D.C. for the Game of Thrones pop up bar!

I don’t even drink lol iconic

I’m a huge fan of the series. I read the books and I love the show so much, so making the four hour drive to D.C. for this bar was worth it! Our plan was to get there on Saturday, spend one night, and leave Sunday night. We got there pretty late on Saturday due to some traffic and checking into the hotel, but we made it to the bar in the end.

Unfortunately, the line to get in was very long and we ended up waiting four hours in the rain. Downpour.

The line was actually not so bad since we had good company. My cousin lives in D.C. so he came with us and brought some friends with him. The people we were with made waiting fun and enjoyable. Everyone in D.C. is so nice and cool. I actually quite loved the buildings and the streets. Compared to New York, it’s very clean.

And the artwork was everything.

If you’re a big Game of Thrones fan, you would *love* this bar. There was different rooms and each room was based off of different places in GoT. The places were Winterfell, The Red Keep, and the House of Black and White. There was another room with dragons, but I’m not sure about the location. I guess I would just call it the dragon room.

These were the name of the drinks

From top left to right- The Lannisters Send Their Regards, I Drink and I Know Things, Dothraquiri, Shame, and The North Remembers. (When anyone got the drink called “Shame”, they would ring a bell and everyone would scream shame. It was pretty great. Cersei was triggered.)

And here is the best thing that happened that night (Thank you to Hakan for making it happen!) :

I sat on the Iron Throne.

Lady Reyhan of House Yasar, first of her name, Protector of the Realm, the true Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Bend the knee.

I was a queen for 30 seconds. It felt powerful.

Since we got to our hotel late on Saturday, we explored our hotel a bit Sunday morning before we checked out. We stayed at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. It. Is. Gorgeous.

Before we left, we wanted to see some monuments so we explored for a bit!

The White House (Obama’s old house)!

The Washington Monument!

World War II Memorial!

The Lincoln Memorial!

(We saw the Capitol too from a distance)

Afterwards, we went out to eat then it was time to hit the road again. We got home last night at around midnight. We left Washington D.C. when there is still so much to explore. I want to go back soon for the museums of course and hopefully for the Cherry Blossom festival. D.C. was so much fun 😀

I’ll be back in D.C. again.. xx

Went went to Smorgasburg today

….and went into a food coma.

There was so many different food there, it was crazy! I was getting full just looking at everything. Everything there looked so delicious. It was very hot today, so it was convenient that they had free water for everyone.

I actually drank out of a pineapple today. It was pretty great.

They also had watermelons and grapefruit. The dragonfruit and oranges were sold out though.

Afterwards, we walked around Little Italy and Soho, looking at all of the amazing street art.

This one was still in the works and we watched a guy spraying the tiger for a bit. It is already so amazing

I had a fun weekend altogether. The other night I was hanging out with some of my friends and that was also a good time.

And now it’s back to Monday.

I hope everyone has a great Monday xx

Feeling Free!

Our pool is done and we have been swimming nonstop!

It is so refreshing to come home after a long day of nonsense and taking a dip in the pool. Night time swims are the best. The pink light is my favorite and is the most aesthetically pleasing.

Eid has passed and we took some awesome pictures outside by the pool.

We used to never go in our backyard but now, we’re there all the time. We never want to leave. We have such cute floats for the pool and amazing landscaping/plants that are being taken care of by my parents. I can’t believe it is our backyard, it’s still so unreal.

We’ve also had a few people over our house already to enjoy it with us. Yesterday was a lot of fun because it was actually mine and my sister’s first full day out by the pool when the sun was out. We’re always at work and come home right when the sun goes away, we really relaxed ourselves yesterday.

We had a couple people over yesterday and had a lot of fun playing volleyball. My sister and I were even sitting by our waterfall and pretending that we were mermaids haha 😀

After it got a little later out, a bunch of girls and I spontaneously decided to go to Hoboken for some dinner. We wanted to get a dinner crepe, walk around a little bit, and go back from some dessert crepes mmhmm :p

Since it was my first full day out in the sun by the pool, I am pretty dark right now. I’m lucky I tan nicely. I’m usually the tannest one in my family by the end of the summer.

I hear a bunch of fireworks right now! I’m sitting outside on the sun bed writing this right now with a beautiful view.

I hope I’ll get to swim as good as Haru-chan. (Free!)

The Last Grad

My little bro graduated from high school!

I’m so happy and proud of him. I can’t even believe that he graduated. He’s still just a little boy in my eyes ;( But alas, he is growing older and I have no choice but to accept this.

And since he’s the youngest in our family, that means my parents don’t have any kids in high school anymore which is weird and relieving at the same time.

So, Ahmedcan has a weird thing about Shrek (the entire internet does tbh) and even decorated his cap… with Shrek’s face on it. I gave him the suggestion for the “It’s All Ogre Now” and he loved it.

He really stuck out in the crowd because he’s so tall + it was hard to miss Shrek’s face.

Aaah high school, it really brought back memories… however, I don’t really miss it.

When any of our family members are graduating, we tend to stick out at every graduation since we always seem to have the largest group of people.

After the graduation ceremony, everyone went to our house to celebrate in the pool!

The pool is finally done and we’ve been going in it almost every day since it finished. It’s amazing and we literally cannot believe that this is our backyard now. It is unreal.

We’ll be swimming all summer!

Good night! xx

Sleep No More

For my 21st birthday, my mom surprised me with tickets to a show called Sleep No More in NYC!

This show is based off of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. I’ve never heard about it before until my mom told me about it. My mom had heard about Sleep No More from a friend months ago and ever since she found out about it, she told me she had been thinking of bringing me here for my birthday. She knew it was going to be the type of place I was definitely going to enjoy from how scary and strange it sounded.

Going to this show was a very interesting experience, nothing I’ve ever experienced before. We had to wear the white masks in the picture above the whole time we were there and just follow the actors and actresses around. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys slightly creepy yet artistically beautiful things. All of the characters did a wonderful job and I appreciated the interior designs of every room and how much work they put into props and details.

Unfortunately on the day that we went, it was raining pretty hard in the city and it was a bit chilly, so we were all huddled up under our umbrellas.

After Sleep No More we went to Ellen’s Stardust Diner, a famous diner in Timesquare with live performances done by the waiters and waitresses. I’ve been there once before and just like the first time, I enjoyed it so much. It was fun singing along to all the songs especially since they sang very well known songs. In the last year, 26 people who have worked there left for Broadway which I think is incredible. They were all so extremely talented.

On my actual birthday, I didn’t really do much except be with my family since it was also Mother’s Day.

However, we did go to the park and reminisce all the times we used to play there. And then my parents played a bit themselves and had a competition on the spider web. It was fun just playing in the park together like we used to do back then. Just like old times.

I had a a very different birthday celebration this year! XX

Mother Knows Best

Hello, blogging world. Today is my 21st birthday. More importantly, it’s Mother’s Day.

My first birthday party

I’m lucky enough to have my birthday fall on Mother’s Day this year because literally without my mom, I wouldn’t be here.

My mom went through a very tough pregnancy with me. She had to go to the hospital within those long 9 months every other day for a checkup because of how risky it was for me and for her as well. There was always that possibility for everything to go wrong, but my mom did everything she could to keep me safe. It’s lucky that I’m even here. Seeing all the things she has done for her family just to make us happy makes me want to be a mother like her someday. I hope I get to be the woman that she is.

not to brag, but out of my three siblings, everyone says I was the cutest baby ay

Without mothers, none of us would be here. They take care of us from the moment they find out they’re pregnant. They’re the ones who carry us and who will always be there for us.

To have my birthday on Mother’s Day, especially this year, is an honor for me. On January 21, 2017, history was made. The 2017 Women’s March. A worldwide protest that women’s rights are human rights. A protest for racial equality, the LGBTQ community, freedom of religion, healthcare, and for our environment. This year was big for us women. And the strongest women I know are our mothers.

Babaanne & Anneanne

This post is for all mothers, grandmas, sisters, daughters, aunts, nieces, cousins, step-mothers, and for the fathers who are also mothers.

I love you Annem ❤

Happy Mother’s Day 🙂
